Door County, WI 2009
PAW Door County 2009
By Laurie Allshouse
As
veterans of five Pedal Across Wisconsin - Northwoods weeklong rides, tour leader
Dr. Pedal encouraged us to go on his weekend tour to Door County.
But with a 1200 mile commute, it just didn’t seem feasible.
For 2009, it was a pleasant surprise to see a week long tour of
Door
County offered.
Here was an opportunity to visit with old friends and make new ones in a
new area of Wisconsin.
121 riders housed in two hotels spent two days riding around the Sturgeon Bay area.
For the next three days our bags were expertly transported by BUBHA
(Brotherhood United Baggage Handlers of America), aka Don and crew, to three
hotels in Sister
Bay.
We rode our bikes along water front villages, and passed through farm
land which housed alpacas and camels.
An invisible line made the temperatures fall 10 – 15 degrees when getting
closer to the coast line. A trip to
Washington Island aboard a ferry boat was enjoyed with the biggest
cycling group the ferry boat captain had seen this season.
Food stops and Ice Cream 101 were manned by the PAW crew so expertly; it
was hard to believe that six people could take care of such a large group.
We
had a great time and look forward to joining our 6th PAW Northwoods
tour in August.
